GeneSight is a pharmacogenomic test that analyzes how a patient's genes may affect their response to psychiatric medications commonly prescribed for depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other mental health conditions. By using a simple cheek swab to collect DNA, the test examines the expression of 12 key genes that interact with psychiatric medications. This information helps healthcare providers make more informed decisions about which medications are likely to be effective and minimize side effects for the patient. Clinical studies have shown that patients treated with GeneSight-guided medication selection are twice as likely to respond to the chosen medication and experience a 70% greater improvement in their symptoms compared to usual treatment.
The test helps healthcare providers identify the most suitable medications for a patient by analyzing their genes against 57 psychiatric medications. GeneSight testing is beneficial for various conditions, as everyone has a genotype and enzymes that can be analyzed for gene-drug interactions. This innovative approach helps make final treatment decisions and improve patient outcomes for difficult-to-treat disorders like major depressive disorder (MDD), anxiety disorders, pain management, and ADHD.
GeneSight testing simplifies the process of finding the right medication for a patient by reducing trial-and-error. It starts with a painless cheek swab to collect the individual's DNA, which is then sent to a lab for analysis. The test results are provided to the healthcare provider, who can then make better-informed decisions about prescribing psychiatric medications. By leveraging genetic information, GeneSight testing can lead to faster and more effective recovery for patients struggling with mental health disorders.
After the GeneSight® testing is completed, the client will need to return to Bell Elite Behavioral Health & Wellness for a 1 hour consultation to review the results. During the consultation, we will discuss the results of the test, explain the medications that best match the individual's genotype, and recommend the best treatment plan. They will also provide support and education on how to manage any side effects or potential drug interactions. Ultimately, the goal is to provide the client with the best possible care to ensure that they receive the most effective treatment and the best chance of recovery.

I cannot recommend Sharon B. enough!!! Sharon helped me out of a really dark place and I truly look forward to our appointments because she makes you feel like you’re talking to your best friend!! She is funny, empathetic, and works to really collaborate with you and your needs rather than just talking at you and doing what she thinks is best! Again, I cannot rave about her more! I’m so grateful to have found this incredible provider!!

It’s been a breath of fresh air working with Sharon. She truly listens and works with the highest level of professionalism. Sharon not only wants to get the the root of the problem, she also thinks about the entire picture before making a decision. I highly recommend!

GeneSight testing offers a streamlined and non-invasive approach to personalized psychiatric treatment. The process begins with a simple cheek swab that collects DNA without causing any discomfort. This sample is then sent to GeneSight's laboratory, where technicians analyze the expression of 12 key genes involved in the metabolism and response to psychiatric medications.
Upon completion of the analysis, your healthcare provider receives a comprehensive report detailing the test results. This crucial information enables them to make informed decisions regarding the selection of the most appropriate medications and initial dosages, tailored specifically to your genetic profile. By leveraging this genetic information, your physician can optimize your treatment plan and minimize the risk of adverse side effects.
GeneSight testing categorizes medications into three distinct groups, facilitating more effective prescriptions and enhancing treatment outcomes:
-
Medications to use as directed
-
Medications with gene-drug interactions
-
Medications with severe gene-drug interactions
This classification system empowers your physician to identify the best-suited medication for your needs, bypassing the often lengthy and frustrating trial-and-error process. For example, when addressing serotonin imbalances, your provider can now select the most promising medication from the "use as directed" list based on your GeneSight results. This targeted approach, known as "pharmacodynamics," significantly improves patient response and overall treatment success.
Research-Backed & 64 Medications Approved By The FDA
The GeneSight Psychotropic test is a comprehensive genetic assessment that covers 64 FDA-approved medications specifically designed for psychiatric treatment. By evaluating an extensive range of medications, the test ensures a higher likelihood of identifying the most appropriate treatment options for each individual based on their unique genetic makeup. This extensive coverage not only streamlines the decision-making process for healthcare providers but also increases the chances of a positive therapeutic outcome for patients, reducing the need for trial-and-error prescribing and mitigating the risk of adverse side effects.
